Project: Alternative Solution to increase customer engagement within the registration and onboarding process

What is Clora?

For BioTech Hiring Managers who build teams, Clora is a talent marketplace that delivers experts 10x faster and costs 70% less. Unlike traditional recruiters, Clora’s marketplace provides consultant recruiting, hiring, payroll and beyond. Its vast network of life science experts and algorithms identifies qualified candidates in days. My team was asked to remove friction from the desktop application's registration and onboarding processes. While my team delivered on this request, I wondered if offering a completely different solution would have been better.

The Design Solution Differs from the Request

We were asked to focus our design on the desktop application. I revisited the user research data and imagined what a day in the life of our users entailed. I imagined they attended multiple meetings, likely in different locations. I wondered, “How often are users in their offices or working on their desktop computers?” Today, people spend significantly less time on computers than they do on their smartphones. Most people have their smartphone on their person most of their waking hours. Whether bouncing between meetings at the office, at home, at a party or driving a carpool, people have their phones with them.

According to Josh Howarth, the rise in smartphone use coincides with the steady decline of internet usage via desktop. Consumers can access the online world in the palm of their hands. Rapid technological advances have allowed people to do much more in less time; hence, they are busier than ever. For those in Biotech, Clora seeks to save users time and deliver results rapidly In light of the changes smartphones have ushered into our work and lives, a mobile application is the better solution. The app would serve as the bridge between customers and Clora’s operations team. It would rely on notifications to remind customers of required actions and updates in the hiring process. It would speed up the hiring process tremendously as users would not be confined to their office computers. Rather, registration could take place anywhere at any time.

Introducing Clora Concierge

I considered the name of the mobile app at length. Who knows the best of the best? Who is most connected? Who takes the best care of those in their charge? Who is in the know of the latest and greatest people, places and things? Who is depended upon to serve others quickly and solve impossible problems? I think of a seasoned concierge at an elite venue like the Four Seasons or the Hotel del Coronado. One can depend on a concierge to deliver excellent service that builds customer loyalty.

Dictionary.com defines a concierge as a person in charge of the entrance of a building; hotel staff in charge of special services for guests; or an employee stationed in an apartment house lobby who screens visitors. Clora describes itself as a white-gloved service. Its platform, algorithm, vast consultant network and operations team meticulously source the perfect match while attending to minute details.

The Clora Concierge would serve as the bridge between customers and the operations team. Ultimately, it would shorten days between talent search and talent hired as hiring managers could tend to the process from anywhere at any time. The mobile application would reduce Clora’s labor-intensive involvement in the registration and onboarding processes as the app would manage needs and prompt the required action of users.

Sketches

While my team delivered a desktop solution, I felt strongly that I wanted to pursue a different solution for this case study. The mobile app needed to serve as the target customer’s timesaving assistant and Clora’s central command. While sketching the registration screens, I sought to gather the necessary information from the initial Clora project. The user’s identity would be verified via an emailed code. A critical part of reducing hiring time is the application’s notifications. Although notifications can be annoying, they remind users of necessary actions, candidates found and scheduling interviews. Clora’s “magic” would take place in the background. Users can rest assured that the hiring process is in motion. They can work on other things and engage with Clora when reminded by Clora Concierge.
